The Massachusetts PDA Clinical Consultation & Study Group exists to provide a reflective, collaborative consultation space for experienced clinicians committed to neurodevelopmentally informed, PDA-affirming practice. Grounded in clinical expertise and professional use of self, the group supports thoughtful engagement with demand, capacity, and nervous system regulation while advancing ethical, connected, and self-directed approaches to care in the absence of established best-practice models.
We rely on active collaboration, consultation, and shared clinical reasoning.
We value interdisciplinary partnership, trusted referral relationships, and collective responsibility for ethical practice.
We believe meaningful learning happens through ongoing reflection on clinical work and on our own reactions within it.
Our consultation space centers professional use of self as a core competency, not an add-on skill.
We ground our work in an accurate understanding of PDA as a neurodevelopmental profile of autism.
We resist trauma-based misattributions and deficit narratives that obscure neurobiology and lead to harmful practice.
We approach demand through a nervous system–informed, capacity-aware lens that recognizes fluctuation as a reality rather than a failure.
Strategic reductions in demand are used to support regulation and restore access to engagement, with the goal of returning to meaningful, relational participation that is developmentally appropriate and autonomy-supportive.
